Last Tuesday Cornell and Ithaca College students, locals, children, the elderly, and professional protesters gathered for a vigil and protest for Michael Brown and the events transpiring in Ferguson. It ended up becoming a chaotic occupation of two street intersections, with some protesters nearly assaulting Review correspondents on scene.
This Thursday evening, much of the same crowd (basically the same except no professional protesters) gathered in the Ithaca Commons for another vigil and protest, centered around a die-in that was followed by a march down several streets.
Looks like a good old-fashioned 1st Amendment -guaranteed protest. I am glad to see that at least some of today’s college students are actively engaged in trying to make society better.
Of course it was protected by the 1st Amendment. No one is challenging that point. I do challenge the argument that these students and locals are doing anything that will actually make “society better.”
