On Wednesday, Sept 4, Donald Trump announced in an interview that Barron Trump would attend the Stern School of Business at NYU. Previously, Donald Trump had announced that Barron Trump would attend a college in New York State leading to speculation that it would be Columbia, Cornell or NYU.
In terms of security, Trump is expected to live in a secure off-campus apartment. NYU’s campus is a part of Manhattan’s city grid and does not offer the degree of pedestrian-only areas as does the Columbia or Cornell campus. As a result, NYU makes it easier to provide transportation and overall security to Barron Trump who remains under Secret Service protection.
That is not to say that Cornell cannot provide security when necessary. For example, last fall, Cornell hosted visits by Governor Kathy Hochul and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff at Cornell’s Jewish Living Center.
Hochul is an ex-officio Cornell Trustee and could potentially attend the Board’s quarterly meetings. During the Vietnam War, Adele Rogers ‘33 JD ‘36 was protected by Federal security while attending trustee meetings because her husband William P. Rogers JD ‘37 was serving as Secretary of State.
Cornell also experienced tight security when former Taiwanese President Lee Teng-hui Ph.D. ’68 visited the campus in 1995 and 2001.
Both Donald Trump and his older children attended the Wharton Business School at the University of Pennsylvania. US News rates Wharton #1, Stern tied for #5, and Cornell Dyson tied for #8 in terms of undergraduate business programs.
In general, NYU experienced fewer Gaza-related disruptions than did Columbia or Cornell last year.
While Cornell requires all freshmen and sophomores to live and dine on campus, NYU does not have any on-campus residency requirement.
