The Coalition for Mutual Liberation has announced that they are ending their encampment at 8 p.m. on Monday, the first day of Cornell’s final exams.
The CML had seven demands, and Day Hall has made clear that none of their demands will be met. The CML and Day Hall discussions never addressed the substance of CML’s concerns, but rather whether the encampment would be moved from next to classroom buildings to a site near Day Hall and Sage Chapel.
Ultimately, six student leaders of the encampment were suspended pending a hearing. The group that allegedly misrepresented the activity on its permit to use the Arts Quad for a temporary art installation, Climate Justice Cornell, was also suspended by the Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards.
Over the summer, representatives of shared governance groups will examine the Interim Expressive Activity Policy that governed Cornell’s handling of the encampment.
The duration of the encampment also encompassed the retirement of President Pollack and the appointment of John A. Siliciano ’75, professor of law, as Acting Provost. Siliciano recently completed a term as Deputy Provost, and Michael Kotlikoff will replace Pollack on July 1.
