Cornell Law professor William A. Jacobson is launching an initiative to combat discrimination in racial-preference programs.
Called the “Equal Protection Project,” the initiative’s website says it is “devoted to the fair treatment of all persons without regard to race or ethnicity.” The project will not only investigate racial-preference programs, but also “litigate when necessary.” The website also features a link to sign up for the “Equal Protection Project Attorney Network” for lawyers interested in working on cases and receiving referrals.
Jacobson explained the project last Thursday on Tucker Carlson Tonight. He said:
Our highest ideal as a society is enshrined in the Constitution, the 14th Amendment, and federal, state and local law, which is you do not discriminate on the basis of race or ethnicity. And we are seeing that unfortunately, under the concept of equity, that there is outright discrimination on the basis of race.
The Legal Insurrection Foundation, which is spearheading the Equal Protection Project, has already filed an administrative complaint against the Providence Public School District (PPSD) in Rhode Island for racial discrimination.
PPSD offered an “Educator of Color Loan Forgiveness Program” to newly or recently-hired teachers who “Identify as Asian, Black, Indigenous, Latino, biracial, or multi-racial.” The U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights has referred the case to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
The EPP is not Jacobson’s only venture. In addition to the Equal Protection Project, the Legal Insurrection Foundation launched its online database, CriticalRace.org, in 2021. And in 2022, Professor Jacobson also filed a motion for preliminary injunction in a COVID treatment discrimination suit.
