In keeping with the theme year, “The Indispensable Condition: Freedom of Expression at Cornell,” the Cornell Review is sponsoring an essay contest, open to undergraduate, graduate and professional students.
Write about what freedom of expression means to you. Why is it important to your college education? Surveys of college students report a large portion of college students feel the need to “self-censor” their own views in on-campus discussions. Did you experience such limitations on sharing your thoughts?
Submission details
Write the essay with a word limit of 1,100 words, preferably in a Google Doc, and then share it with cornellreview@cornell.edu. Alternatively, attach a Word document to an email sent to that address.
All submissions must be received by 11:59 p.m. on October 31, 2023.
The decision of the judges will be final, and the authors agree to have their essays posted by the Cornell Review.
A $500 grand prize will be awarded to the author of the best essay.
