You’ve heard of racism but now Cornell, along with a litany of other research groups, are proud to present you with a new evil which I would denominate as “facism.” According to a series of studies by various research groups groups
about the same proportion of workers report discrimination based on appearance as discrimination based on race or sex, a figure higher than for other forms of bias based on age, religion, or ethnicity.
Michigan appears to be a pioneer in ending this horrific bias; the state bans “appearance bias” but—alas—30 freckled, moled, and big-nosed caterwaulers have actually brought claims of “facism” to the state’s courts.
How does this impact Cornell? President Skorton has lamented that “Despite the progress we have made as a campus and as a nation, too many people in our own country and around the world judge others on the basis of their race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, disability status or other such characteristics.” Let’s see if he notices our university’s astounding leaps in bias research and updates the Code of Conduct.
Studies like these are a waste of R&D money. Anyone who’s been alive for more than 15 years could have concluded this.
