Throughout the Bush era, especially during the course of the second term, liberals and leftist media became Bush-hounds. Everyday the president was slammed with accusations of carelessness, idiocy, war crimes, and racism. Who can forget stunner Kanye West declaring to the world “George Bush doesn’t care about black people!” Countdown‘s Keith Olbermann had a conspiracy for each day of the week. People conjured ridiculous stories of Bush killing in the name of oil, holding responsibility for 9/11, and launching platforms based on personal, ulterior motives.
Last week, Bobby Jindal was outraged when the coast guard halted several oil clean-up barges that were in the process of sucking oil out of the water. Today, the federal government put the kibosh on the sand berm dredging to prevent oil spreading; it will continue in two weeks. In the midst of all this, Obama is hosting a slew of congressman today to discuss climate change legislation that seems relevant since BP’s blunder. Sure sounds like a president pushing ideology on the back of a crisis which worsens as a result of his government’s ineptitude.
Where is the outcry from the left against the man sitting in office? Of course, it won’t be heard – but more importantly, where are the irate conservatives, seizing their opportunity to lash out like the dems did throughout 2005? They’re hard to find, apparently. There are critics, of course, but if one listens to the voice coming from the Right, it’s a distinctively different one from the dems during Katrina. Perhaps these Republicans should capitalize on this opportunity to tarnish our president. Perhaps this is a drawback of tolerance.
