As President Trump delivered his speech at the Republican National Convention on Thursday, thousands protested outside the White House, prompting #DrownOutTrump to trend on Twitter. While the disrupters were too far away to be audible on television, various reporters claimed to have heard them from the grounds of the convention.
Inciting violence and disrupting neighborhoods using amplified sound systems does not fall under the scope of first amendment protection. In one video, protesters can be seen chanting, “No justice, no peace! Take it to the streets and fuck the police!” That same night, other BLM protesters, standing outside St. John’s Church, chanted, “If we don’t get it [justice], BURN IT DOWN!” St. John’s was set on fire by rioters in late May. Rather than being celebrated by the press, these domestic terrorists should be condemned and prosecuted.
The worst offenses were committed after the convention ended. As guests left the White House grounds, they were harassed, followed, and assaulted by the lefist mobs that awaited them outside the gates. Senator Rand Paul was surrounded by a violent crowd that shouted threats and obscenities toward him and violated his freedom of movement. “Say her name!”, they yelled. They were referring to Breonna Taylor, a young woman who was killed during a no-knock raid in March. Senator Paul is the author of the ‘Justice For Breonna Taylor Act,’ a proposal designed to eliminate no-knock raids. Additionally, a Trump supporter was punched to the ground by BLM rioters. These people don’t want solutions, they want anarchy. They want destruction.
Suddenly, the intolerant forces that have dominated academia for decades have now imposed their sick ideology on the entire nation. No longer are neomarxist ideas relegated to obscure fields of study in higher education. The notion that certain types of political speech equate to violence, and hence, must be silenced, is being enforced by criminals in cities across America. A republic can not survive for long when people must fear for their lives simply because of their political beliefs.
While the leftists may have been unsuccessful in drowning out Trump, who is empowered by the presidency and broadcast nationwide, they have been successful in silencing many of you. According to a poll conducted by the Cato Institute, sixty-two percent of Americans say they have political views they are afraid to share. This is not a byproduct of the rioting, it’s the goal. In order for America to succeed, conservatives, classical liberals, centrists, and libertarians alike must unite to defeat this culture of censorship and defend the values upon which this country was built.
