To continue my newest segment, I give you part 2 of the Lazy Man’s Guide to all things Cornell.
This week’s post comes in response to the International Association of Chiefs of Police’s annual National Law Enforcement Challenge, which last week awarded Cornell Police second place in the University Police Category. The award is the University’s fourth. So take a break, sit back, and enjoy some highlights of what has been an exciting year for the CUPD.
ITHACA’S FINEST: “2010 Annual Security Report”
– DWI Arrests have increased steadily since 2008: 2008 – 19, 2009 – 25, 2010 – 44.
– Liquor Law Violations, both Referrals and Arrests decreased in 2010.
– Drug Law Violations, both Referrals and Arrests decreased in 2010.
– The number of burglaries has decreased steadily since 2008.

“In addition to the jaywalking tickets, two students received Judicial Administrator referrals.”
“A student who requested to remain anonymous said that when he received a ticket, he was told that he could pay anywhere from zero to 150 dollars.”
“Police parked two police cars for the operation on the sidewalk near the intersection of College Avenue and Campus Road, near Anabel Taylor Hall, from about 10:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Tostanoski explained that CUPD chose the location because of the traffic problems caused by pedestrians and cyclists. A total of seven officers participated in the operation, he said.”
CALL FOR IMPROVEMENTS: “2 deaths result in more patrols near Ithaca Gorge.” (AP)
“Cornell University campus police and local law enforcement will increase patrols near the Ithaca Gorge after two students died in separate incidents over the holiday weekend.”
“Ithaca police say a body was spotted in Fall Creek gorge early Saturday afternoon and was later recovered by emergency crews. University officials say the victim was an international student visiting Cornell for the summer.”
