In case you quickly opened and/or deleted that email from President Skorton this morning, no, he was not writing to wish you a safe break. Cornell will be facing a “10% correction in [its] annual operating budget over the next few years.” As far as undergraduate students are concerned, I don’t think that these cuts will affect drastically affect the quality of our education. From what I’ve gathered from professors and graduate students, there will be some layoffs and funding cuts for various departments, but the only shock undergrads might feel is slightly larger class sizes. Input is welcome.

interesting to see how they handle financial aid for more needy families now that the economy is down. I received in email regarding this earlier that said (in so many words) in spite of budget cuts and less $$ influx into the school, financial aid will be adjusted to fit students who will be needing more than usual. Sounds good to me.
