Cornell’s Program on Freedom and Free Societies will host award-winning television writer and producer Rob Long later in the month for a discussion on the end of Hollywood.
The event is titled “The End of Hollywood. And Why That’s a Good Thing.”
Long received two Emmy nominations and a Writers Guild of America award for his work writing and producing the long-running series Cheers. His more recent work included the series Sullivan & Son that aired from 2012 to 2014, and he is currently working on a show called Not Guilty for ABC Television.
Long is a rare breed: a conservative in Hollywood. Even rarer, he is an open and outspoken conservative in Hollywood. He is the co-founder of Ricochet.com, a center-right news and opinion site, and contributes to the National Review, Wall St. Journal, and other publications. Long also regularly appears on Fox News.
The event will take place on April 19 at 5:30 pm in Goldwin Smith Hall room G22.
The Program on Freedom and Free Societies “aims to enhance understanding and appreciation for constitutional liberty, by stimulating inquiry into the nature and meaning of freedom” according to its website.
Every three years the Writers Guild of America renegotiates its agreement with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers. I believe this is upcoming, and another strike is likely planned. Don’t be surprised if producers then resort to outsourcing scriptwriting to offshore talent, which would end Hollywood as we know it.
