On June 16, 2015, Donald Trump announced his campaign for President of the United States, and from that moment, a movement was born. Trump is not a perfect man, nor was he a perfect president, but he brought about a necessary change to American politics, breathed new life into the conservative movement, and was the greatest president of my lifetime. There was great policy such as increased international peace and a reduction in foreign intervention, policy that should have been seen out further such as the construction of the southern border wall, and terrible policy, such as the bump stock ban. But the reality that many, if not most, of Trump’s opposition fails to realize is that his presidency was not just about the policy, President Donald Trump is a symbol.
For decades, the American people were used and abused. Jobs were outsourced to the third world while our culture was degraded and destroyed. Our rights were trampled on by overreaching bureaucracies and politicians who used the full force of the state to destroy countless lives. Thousands of Americans were sent overseas to be slaughtered and mutilated fighting terrorists and regimes funded and supported by the same government that sent them to the other side of the world for undeclared wars that benefitted no one but political special interests. Millions of immigrants were let in who refused to learn the language or integrate into the culture all while profiting off of our economy and welfare state.
The establishment within our financial, media, and political institutions had done nothing but serve themselves, and malign the American people. Our nation was – and still is – in a very dark place. When President Trump rode down that escalator in Trump Tower, Americans saw hope in a man who told them that their nation was not deplorable, that it was worth defending, and that he would fight for them. I have often said that part of Donald Trump’s appeal is that he is not a billionaire, but rather a normal man who has billions of dollars. The average man could look to him and see a sort of reflection of himself, someone who talked plainly, ate fast food on his private jet, and had an irreverence which signaled to millions of Americans that this was a man who was like them.
After suffering through two impeachments and facing resistance from both sides of the aisle, President Trump’s term in office has come to a close. But if anyone believes that when Joe Biden was sworn into office, Trump’s movement which started over half a decade ago, will end, they are sorely mistaken. The MAGA movement, America-First conservatism, whichever name you apply, will endure. America’s nationalist-populist movement has, and will continue to, expand far beyond Donald Trump. When we are censored, we move to a different platform; when we are disparaged, we laugh at those who despise us; when we are opposed, we only grow stronger and more determined. The 2022 midterm elections are fast approaching, and when they arrive, the MAGA conservatives will return with a passion and determination never before seen. It took a concerted effort of legacy media, tech giants, and proven voter fraud to unseat President Trump, and yet the movement perseveres. Never forget that historic night when thousands in red caps cheered to the sound of The Rolling Stones’ You Can’t Always Get What You Want after a sweeping presidential victory. MAGA lives on in all of us, and it is through our efforts that we will be victorious once again.
