On March 8th, the Cornell Review will be hosting alumnus Stephen Einhorn ‘64 to talk about climate change.
Einhorn graduated from Cornell in 1964 with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry. He went on to earn his master’s in polymeric materials from Brooklyn Polytech Institute. Einhorn then led a mergers-and-acquisitions company for over three decades, specializing in transactions within the chemicals industry. Today, he is a general partner at the Wisconsin-based Capital Midwest Fund.
Next Wednesday’s event will be held in-person in Warren Hall 151 at 6:00pm, with a virtual option available for those not on-campus. This event comes less than three years after the Cornell Board of Trustees’s Investment Committee voted to halt new investments in fossil fuels.
Cornell is familiar with political debates and protests about climate change. In March 2020, protesters from the Climate Justice Cornell student group disrupted traffic. A month earlier, members of the group also blocked a crosswalk near Statler Hall demanding divestment. During the height of the divestment efforts, some Cornell students opposed the measure, with one writing a Letter to the Editor in the Cornell Daily Sun titled “Divestment Folly.”
The discussion of climate change will be continuing next Wednesday. Einhorn is expected to address concerns about carbon footprint, sea level rise, and the increase in atmospheric carbon dioxide. He will present a view that diverges from the orthodoxy on campus.
Attendees who wish to attend virtually must register in advance.
