[UPDATE]: University’s Tommy Bruce releases a statement: “I am sorry to have to inform you that another tragedy has occurred on our campus. A body has been recovered from the Fall Creek gorge near the Thurston Avenue bridge. The Ithaca police department is investigating the matter.”
[UPDATE]: Deputy university spokesman Simeon Moss just informed The Review that the University will be issuing a statement shortly to students.
[UPDATE]: Confirmed body.
Around 11:55 AM on March 11, three to four rescue workers began attempting to retrieve what looks to be an unidentified body from the North Campus gorge as police and fire trucks swarmed the scene at Thurston Bridge. The body has been seen below the gorge on the North side and at this point, the gender of the victim is unknown.
The tragic situation was described succinctly by one anonymous Cornell male who asked, “didn’t this just happen?” Only less than a month ago, freshman Brad Ginsburg was retrieved from the very same area. As police cars and fire officials barricaded the scene, those involved in the rescue declined to provide any further information at this time.
