“The nerve, the audacity, the unmitigated gall!”
– Tim Meadows as Johnnie Cochran
I wasn’t always a conservative, perhaps I’ll write an article on my conversion one day, but for now, it should suffice that up until 2014/2015, I was a leftist. An essential facet of becoming a conservative was opening my eyes to the rampant hypocrisy of the left. This is not to say that there are no right-wing hypocrites – and I have been critical of other conservatives – but frankly, the two cannot be compared. In this article, I address the hypocrisy of so-called “journalists” who are using the current pandemic to stoke fears and push an agenda but don’t practice what they preach. Below are a few of the more outrageous examples of media who say one thing and do another. Personally, I can’t decide if it’s more insulting that they assume we won’t notice, or that they don’t care if we do.
CNN White House Correspondent Kaitlin Collins
I don’t trust much, if anything, that comes from CNN, and Kaitlin Collins is a wonderful example of why. Earlier this month, Collins questioned President Trump on his decision to not wear a face mask during a press conference. On first glance, this seems like plain criticism being leveled at a political figure by a member of the media. The issue comes from this same reporter removing her own face mask once the conference was over, when she assumed she was no longer being filmed.
MSNBC Broadcaster Cal Perry
MSNBC’s Cal Perry was called out on live TV by a passerby. The reason? He was at Lake Geneva in Wisconsin, reporting on how almost no one was wearing masks while out enjoying the day. But – as is corroborated by Perry’s own admission on the above linked MSNBC clip and in the passerby’s own video – half of his camera crew were not wearing masks. Either Perry and MSNBC don’t believe what they’re reporting, or they have utter contempt for the lives of those behind the camera. I don’t know which would be worse.
A pattern is forming with regard to how CNN staff treat the issue of wearing masks in public. Gary Tuchman was reporting on people not wearing face masks on beaches in Alabama. s. Just as with Kaitlin Collins, Tuchman suddenly feels incredibly safe from the virus once cameras stop rolling. As the image to the right shows, Tuchman was wearing a mask while being filmed but took it off once he thought no one was watching.
Science fiction author Patrick Tomlinson has a reputation on Twitter for bellyaching about conservatives and President Trump – or to use his words, Nazis and “the Tangerine Toddler”. In a stunning act of hypocrisy which exemplifies the phrase “rules for thee, not for me”, a few days ago, Patrick Tomlinson got a new haircut (right). The reason that this is hypocritical? Earlier in the month, Tomlinson implied that anyone in favor of reopening merely wanted to get a haircut because they’re a Nazi (right).
The Lesson Learned
The behavior that I have detailed in this article is a small sample of how the hypocrites in the media behave. Frankly, this utter contempt and disregard for the truth, for consistency, for the American people in general, is disgusting. Many times I have been asked why I don’t trust the mainstream media, and this conduct is a perfect example of why. The media elites do not care about you, and they do not want to tell you the truth. It is the little lies such as an anchor wearing a mask when on-camera, but no mask when off-camera, that forms the foundation for greater mistruths and falsehoods to be spread.
Oh, sweetie. You tried so hard. I get it. You really want to find a flash-bang to distract from the last five months of abject failure from your camp.
But, here’s the problem. The knots of Karens showing their Nazi roots on May 5th in Brookfield weren’t wearing masks. We’re socially distancing. Weren’t abiding by stay-at-home orders. Weren’t doing a single thing to protect other people from COVID19, because they falsely believed it was all a hoax.
Their delusion lead directly to a spike of cases in Wisconsin a week later.
As opposed to me, weeks later, after businesses in Milwaukee had been approved to reopen, wearing a mask, having my temperature taken before entering, and being attended to by my stylist wearing full PPE because we both understood the threat of the virus.
You’re trying, and failing, to compare apples to super spreaders. You act in this dishonest fashion, drawing false-equivalences, because the truth isn’t on your side, and never will be.
